Hi Sahim,
NetPoint uses WMI to poll your computers. Starting with Windows Vista you can change the port WMI runs on. Please see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb219447(VS.85).aspx for more information. This should not affect polling.
If you're looking to allow NetPoint to poll your systems while Windows Firewall is enabled, you can do this by checking the Remote Administration exception under Control Panel > Windows Firewall. You can also set this across a set of computers via Group Policy at Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Network Connections > Windows Firewall > Domain Profile.
You can set a username and password on the NetPoint web site. To do this, first lock down the permissions of the <Program Files>\Neutex NetPoint\Web folder to the users that should only have access. Then enable Integrated Authentication on the NetPoint virtual directory in IIS (no other authentication options should be enabled). Please see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324274 for instructions if you're doing this on a Windows XP or 2003 system.
After each scheduled poll, NetPoint will log an entry in the Application section of Event Viewer, which lists any machines that were not polled. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Shannon
